I realize that we’re already at the beginning of March and that writing a blog post about my goals for the year might seem a little nonsensical. But I’m doing it anyway, because fuck it, what is time anyway, right? The fact is that I could have written this post in January, I just figured I’d get it done “Someday”. I guess “Someday” finally decided to show up.
So here we go:
Art
I’m quite happy with the progress I made in 2023, so there are no big plans here other than to keep learning, creating, and, hopefully, improving. The only real goal I have in this category for 2024 is “more”. I’m a firm believer that the only way to get better is to just keep producing.
Fitness
This is the big one for me in 2024. I (mostly) enjoy going to the gym. I like to keep in shape and I enjoy the clear and visible improvements one can make when doing weightlifting regularly. It feels very much the opposite of doing art, where I can never really tell if I’m improving month to month.
But during the last few months of 2023, I found myself going to the gym less than I would really like to, and not prioritizing it as much as I should. My goal is to avoid that happening this year by making sure I always go to the gym before anything else gets done.
Reading
The only reading I did in 2023 was whatever was in my RSS reader and on my various social media timelines. I think I finished two, maybe three books. So the goal for 2024 is to read more books. Simple as that.
This particular goal was a bit of a late addition, so I’ve only just recently gotten started. The first book I’m reading is The Mountain in the Sea by Ray Nayler (I’m getting close to the halfway mark and I’m very much enjoying it!). I also have a StoryGraph profile if you wanna follow me over there to see what I’m reading!
