Over the weekend I watched the first three episodes of the new Fallout TV show on Amazon Prime, and I have to admit I’m pretty much loving it so far. I’ve been a big fan of the franchise since I first played Fallout 2, as a kid who still didn’t speak English quite as well as I may have led myself to believe, sometime in the early 2000s. And I’ve (mostly) enjoyed every Fallout game that’s been released since then. So when I heard they were making a TV show based on the games I was, to say the least, highly skeptical.
We all know that Hollywood doesn’t exactly have the best track record when it comes to adapting video game IPs, with The Last of Us possibly being one of the very few examples of it being done right. So, even after I watched the trailers, I figured there was no chance in hell they would be able to pull off translating the (absolutely bonkers) world of Fallout to the TV screen.
And though I’m only three episodes in, I’m happy to have been proven wrong for now. To quote myself from Mastodon: “It looks like Fallout, sounds like Fallout, and feels like Fallout”. Hopefully, that will remain true for the rest of the show. I’m very slow when it comes to watching TV shows, so who knows when I’ll get around to watching more episodes, but I’ll definitely be prioritizing this show when I do have time to watch something.
