Roguelike Progress – Still Going This Time

Very much unlike my previous attempt at creating my own roguelike I have not (yet) abandoned the task this time around. In fact I am quite enjoying myself, and the feeling of diving into and learning something new is great!

I was working my way through SelinaDev’s roguelike tutorial and made it almost all the way to the end before I started getting a little impatient. So I’ve started ripping out the parts I didn’t like, tweaking the things I do like to better suit my needs, and have begun adding small features of my own as I slowly figure out how all this works.

The player in the Hub World

There isn’t a whole lot going on with the game just yet. The player spawns inside of a hub world that contains portals that transports the player to a randomly generated dungeon. That dungeon only contains one single floor right now, and has no way for the player to get back out. So, you know, there isn’t much of a game yet.

I have also started putting together my own tile set, but that’s not my main focus at the moment so I’m still mixing in bits and pieces from Kenney’s 1-Bit Asset pack.

I’ve been at it pretty hard for the last few weeks but I expect progress to be slowing down a little going forward as this is definitely a very long term project for me. I need to get back to making some art, I haven’t really touched Blender in a while and I have quite a few ideas stored up right now.
