A couple of weeks ago I got an email notifying me that I’d been invited to the Raycast for Windows beta. Now, apart from owning an iPhone I’m not much of an Apple-guy though for whatever reason I do listen to a whole lot of Apple-adjacent podcasts and have a bunch of Apple-focused blogs in my RSS reader, which is to say I’ve heard a whole lot of great things about Raycast over the years, but I’ve never had chance a to try it out myself.
The Windows version of Raycast is still in quite an early beta, and there are a lot of features still missing so this definitely isn’t a review. Not because of the beta state of the software, but because I’m not a review-guy. I don’t do them, don’t know how to, nor do I care to become a review-guy. I just like talking about stuff that I think is neat, and right now that is Raycast for Windows.
Mostly I’ve just been using it as my default way to launch apps on my computer and for that it feels super snappy and smooth. The clipboard history is also a feature I’ve been making good use of, and I quite like how Raycast handles it.
One feature I’m missing is being able to automatically insert text from the snippets library using keywords, but apparently that feature is planned. So for the time being I’m happily using Espanso as my text expander app, and will have to wait and see if Raycast ends up replacing it in the future.
I’ve got a few beta invites available, so if you’re interested in giving it a try send me an email and I’ll be happy to share.
