New Computer Day!

Please excuse the mess. We’re still getting settled in.

The last time I bought myself a new computer was in 2019. It was a desktop PC with an Intel i7-8700, an Nvidia RTX 2070, and 16 gigs of RAM. It was a pretty solid PC at the time I bought it, and it has served me well ever since. Basically, all of the art I’ve posted over the last 6 years was created using that PC. But being a 6-year-old computer, it was certainly starting to show its age, and I’ve been wanting to upgrade for a little while now.

Well, I’ve spent the last week moving apartments and the new place is a little constrained on space, which means I’ve not been able to bring my old workstation. Hopefully, we won’t be living in this apartment for too long (depending on how things work out). Still, I’m not going to subject myself to being without a computer for the foreseeable future. So last night I went out and bought myself a Lenovo Legion Pro 7. I’m not super thrilled about spending the money on a laptop instead of a proper workstation, but at least this will allow me to keep making art.

Here’s the list of specs:

  • AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX
  • Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080
  • 16″ WQXGA (2560 x 1600) IPS, 240 Hz
  • 16GB DDR5
  • 1TB SSD

While I definitely would have preferred a proper workstation, this thing is quite a beast compared to my old computer. And I think it will serve me well for quite some time. Once we move again to what will (hopefully) be our permanent place of residence (and when I can afford it) I’ll be looking into getting myself set up with a sweet desktop PC.

Now, I’m off to spend the rest of my day getting this thing up and running with all the stuff I require!
