Learning All the New Things

Attempting to get back on track with making art after my recent three weeks of being sick has proved to be a little more challenging than I thought. The last few weeks have also been hectic which definitely isn’t helping. But I figured I would be back to my usual output by now. I’m getting there it’s just taking a little longer than I thought it would.

Eventually, I figured that instead of staring vacantly at an empty scene in Blender trying to make something happen, I should do something I’ve been neglecting for a while now, which is trying to learn something new. Working out some different parts of the brain is a sure-fire way to get the machinery turning again, and it’s just a healthy and good thing to do in general.

So, about a week or so ago I loaded up some courses and started dusting off my Python skills. It’s been a few years since the last time I sat down to try and learn some Python, but after a few hours of programming alongside some tutorials, the basics came back to me pretty fast. I’m still rusty as hell, but I’m having fun messing around with some simple scripts. And maybe, juuust maybe, this time around I’ll keep this going for long enough that I’ll actually get around to learning some of the more advanced stuff. You know, the fun stuff.

Big emphasis on the maybe. Because this weekend I also had the brilliant thought that I would like to try and make a simple little game at some point. And during the course of this though a voice popped into my head telling me “Hey, you remember that this thing called Godot exists, right?” And being the kind of person that I am, I said “Of course!” and pretty much instantly put on some coffee and downloaded the Godot game engine. And so I spent Sunday evening I spent going through Brackey’s beginner Godot tutorial (which was very good).

Where I’ll end up going with any of this I have no idea. But for now, I’m having fun playing with my new toys. I’m writing this mostly as a small attempt to keep myself at least a little bit accountable to keep learning, but I’m not making any promises. Maybe there will be devlogs in the future of this blog. I’ll keep you posted.

Also, if you happen to read this and have got some tips for Godot tutorials or resources I should look into, please send me an email!
