Delving Back Into the Caves of Qud

I don’t get to spend as much time gaming these days because there are other things I would much rather do most days. But when I do feel like playing something, I often tend to gravitate towards old-school roguelikes like Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup and games of that nature.

So, because I’ve been stuck at home nursing a fever for the last few days I decided to fire up Caves of Qud for the first time in a few years. And, boy, am I glad I did! I’d forgotten how much I absolutely adore this game.

One of my characters exploring some surface ruins, moments before an untimely death.

Caves of Qud can best be described as an open-world roguelike set in a sort of retro-futuristic, post-apocalyptic world. The game world is filled to the brim with an insane collection of items and gear, and much of the games history and locations is generated fresh with each new character so there is always something new to explore.

The game can be brutally difficult at times (though you can play without perma-death if you want), but if you’re into that kind of thing I absolutely recommend giving Caves of Qud a try. The 1.0 release of the game should be coming out sometime later this year, but the game already has so much content that there is no reason to wait if you want to give it a shot.
