I consider myself a very patient person. In fact I’d argue patience is one of my greatest strengths. Even in these days of social media and endless feeds of short-form content I’ve managed to keep my patience mostly intact. As an artist it is probably one of the most important skills to hone. Creating art takes time and concentration, patience is required.
This weekend my patience was put to the test in a big way. We’re upgrading the kitchen in our new house and we had to get the room ready before the weekend was over, since they started actually installing the kitchen this Monday morning. Which means we had to finish putting up the new wallpaper and getting the walls painted.
Now, I’ve never put up wallpaper before, but I figured how hard can it be? I was adamant about doing it myself because there was no way in hell I was going to pay someone to do what really shouldn’t be too difficult of a job.
And I was mostly right. It wasn’t all that difficult. But goddammit if it wasn’t the most tedious, mind-numbing thing I’ve ever done in my entire life. I was alone at the new house all Saturday working away trying to get the job done, and somewhere around 1am I was finally finished. My Samsung Buds had ran out of battery a little earlier, which only made those last few hours even more dreadful.
Now, the sense of accomplishment I felt once I actually finished the damn thing was quite something! I think I did a pretty damn good job too, considering I’d never done it before. But those eight hours I spent getting there were basically torture.
And the really fun part is that I get to do it all over again this week to the downstairs bedroom!
