Over the years I’ve tried my hand at quite a few different hobbies and activities. You never know what might be fun or interesting until you give it a try, you know? Before I became a regular at the gym doing weightlifting 4-5 times a week I did a lot of running, but running didn’t have the staying power for me that lifting seems to have had. I’ve dabbled with trying to learn a few different instruments, and while I would absolutely love to get back into making music it’s just not something I have the time for these days. I very much enjoy photography and also wouldn’t mind spending more time getting better at taking pictures. The list goes on.
Then there is the list of hobbies I haven’t yet tried, but would very much love to. That’s not a short list either. As an example: a 3D printer is something I’ve had on my wish list for many, many years. As of right now, I can’t justify spending money on a 3D printer, but it’s definitely a scene I would love to get into at some point in the future. Again, the list goes on.
But the one thing that I used to do, but don’t do anymore, that I probably miss the most is astrophotography. I absolutely adore looking at astrophotography images. There is something calming and peaceful about looking at images of the universe that we live in. It has a way of putting things in perspective, even more so if you have a cursory understanding of what you’re looking at beyond the pretty colors and bright lights (those are nice too, don’t get me wrong).
The reasons for me not doing astrophotography these days both come down to money (it is a hilariously expensive hobby) and the fact that it just doesn’t fit with my lifestyle these days. One day I might get back into it (assuming the night sky isn’t littered with satellites making it impossible to get good images from the surface), but for the time being, I’ll have to be content with browsing the Astrophotography Subreddit and some of the astrophotographers I follow on Instagram.
Anyway, here is a small collection of the photos I took that I am quite proud of. Hope you enjoy!
